Products:
These power plants generate electrical energy by the use of a turbine moved by water, linked to an alternator.
They can be classified according to the exploited drop, to the water flow and the system of use.
The electricity is generated inside the generator but the voltage is not enough for the transmission network therefore suitable transformers have to be used to step up it.
Every single transformer is designed according to specific factors, from voltage to power and climatic conditions.
Every time we get a request from this sector there are features:
-
Operating conditions
The operating conditions are different from those of nuclear and thermal plants.
In the hydroelectric plants the atmosphere is humid and the sites are normally in remote locations with special environmental conditions.
We pay particular attention to the site in order to develop the best solution for the operating plant. -
Sizing
Electrical and structural sizing of the transformer is critical because it is strictly related to the size of the generation units to which it has to be connected. -
Close collaboration with transport and commissioning companies
Weight and dimensions of the transformers have particular importance so transport vehicles must be adequate. A considerable proportion of the weight is due to the oil, so the direct consequence is that the big transformers have to be transported empty and in a second step filled on site. During transport the transformers are filled either by dry air or nitrogen. It could happen that, because of transportation, the auxiliaries have to be removed and assembled on site. For this reason the collaboration with all the people involved in the project is essential. -
The better choice of cooling
SEA can offer different types of cooling suitable for these applications according to the best conditions:
- ONAN (through oil circulation in the radiators)
- ONAF (through oil circulation in the radiators with the addictions of the funs)
- OFAF and ODAF (through air cooled heat exchangers)
- OFWF and ODWF (through circulation of water in the heat exchangers)
Normally water is used for cooling the oil in the radiators in a separate heat exchanger because of its large amount availability. -
